It looks like VH1 Soul is being shut down. I’m kinda blown about this…the station was one of the few that played consistently good music. Common, Mos Def, Roots, Lauryn Hill, Jill Scott, The Roots etc. It pisses me off that crap in the “i wish I could f**k every girl in the world” vein has no problem getting airplay. But let somebody with an imagination or sense of social purpose try to get consistent mainstream attention…I could rant on that for a while, but I won’t. I’ll just say that there needs to be a TV haven for music like the below. The breakdown around 4 minutes in is beautiful.

Silver lining to this whole situation –> our ongoing digital revolution means people who want to access or spread good music have a means to do so. So if they shut down the station, best believe this music will still get out, one way or another. It’s just of tremendous benefit to have a station dedicated to it. I’m sure Jill Scott can say this a lot more coherently than me…
