Bio
I appreciate you taking the time to visit my site. Please feel free to explore a bit, you’ll find: photos, free music downloads, videos, and my blog. People have asked me about the latter a lot. I keep a blog because it provides a means for me to rant on politics, religion, music…whatever topic has to be sitting in my mind at the time. I also like to post music or videos that I’ve been into recently.
I do play at weddings and other events, if my school/work schedule allows. Contact me via this page for more info.
I’ve been playing sax for about fourteen years. I’m currently with Ndelible, a DC-based band that’s been doing some really cool work. If you wanna hear some of our sounds, check out ndelible.com. Ndelible’s gotten to play alongside some of my favorite acts, including: Eric Roberson, Fertile Ground, Anthony David and Dwele. We’ve also been featured on okayplayer, cdbaby, and other online outlets.
I released my second project, The People’s Gathering in 2008. It’s available on iTunes, amazon.com, etc. I’m currently recording my third album, which will be more jazz/funk focused.
I’ve had the honor of playing with some great artists in my career. Walter Beasley, in particular, has been really kind, inviting me to play with him at Blues Alley and the Birchmere.Video of one of the shows is on the right side of the screen. I’ve also had the opportunity to play at Warner Theatre in DC for the Washington Post’s Music and Dance Awards.
Music has always been a crucial part of my life. I started playing way back yonder…in the 4th grade at Kettering Elementary School in PG County, Maryland. My grandfather bought me my first sax, and I will forever be grateful to him for that. From there, I practiced as much as I could and developed my ear. Having a father who had approximately 3 trillion records helped with that. I used to just sit downstairs and attempt to play along with the greats…Grover Washington Jr, Miles Davis, Stanley Turrington, Chick Corea, the list goes on and on…
A major part of my musical education took place in high school. I went to DeMatha in Hyattsville, MD. We’re often thought of as a sports powerhouse, but we also had (and have) very good music and academic programs. Under the leadership of a great set of conductors (Jim Roper and John Mitchell), I learned about the more classical side of music. I played in the Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, and Jazz Ensemble. During my four years at DM, I studied under legendary saxophonist (and head of Jazz Studies at University of MD, College Park) Chris Vadala. Mr. Vadala was an extraordinary teacher who helped to develop my ear and improvisation.
Music-aside, I’m very interested in all things politics…hence the rants on my blog. I’m currently attending the University of Maryland’s School of Public Policy. I’m also a proud graduate of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), where I was a Sondheim Public Affairs Scholar and majored in Political Science.
I hope that you enjoy my music. Please feel free to contact me
