Quick Update

10 Jul

Hola folks…

I’m still on the job hunt and GRE studying. Facebook responses to the last blog on illegal downloading were interesting. Def seems like a heated debate…good arguments on both sides, but I still have to support artists getting paid for their work.

I can’t help but wonder if the debate would be resolved if the RIAA actually started holding people accountable for the music they download. As of now they just crack down on random people, charging them exorbitant fees…this does nothing but align everybody on the downloaders’ sides.

Adding a little more nuance to this issue, I will say that though I won’t download in print works, I have downloaded works that are out of print because the label refuses to allow them in current format. For instance, there’s a greattttttt album by Chuck Mangione called Main Squeeze that was released in the 70′s as an album, but has yet to be brought to CD/mp3. My dad has the album, but I wanted it in mp3 format. Does that make me just as bad as those who don’t buy their music at all? Eh, iono…but just on the surface it would appear so…like I said, nuance.

In other news, I’m going to Rock the Bells this weekend w/ a certain young lady (thanks to Aunt Ju and Gerald for the tickets!!!!). Hopefully I’ll have some pics when I get back…looking forward to seeing the Roots, Nas/Damian Marley, Talib, Common, K’Naan, the list goes on.

Last thing…I haven’t heard an album as good as Maxwell’s latest…in a minuteeeeeeeee. Shouts to Kenneth Whalum (Kirk Whalum’s nephew), who plays in his band. Ya’ll came out w/ a dope release.

Hope everybody’s well…
