I know, I know…

07 Nov

I’ve been mighty MIA…and I apologize for that. Work, school, and the grad school search are taking a toll. Can’t complain, though. God’s good…life’s good. It’s all…good, if busy. This is what’s been on my mind recently. Not excited at all, but…

Ndelible is featured on Okayplayer.com!!!!

For those of you who may not be familiar, the site was created by The Roots’ Drummer Questlove. Getting on here is huge…and to get such a good album review is crazy. You can read the whole thing at the link, but my favorite part’s yonder:

Time and Chance--Ndelible

“Time & Chance, the first album by Ndelible is a worthy introduction to what I hope is a long-lasting career. The musical nuances are delightful and exciting to what have become mundane radio ears. The lyrics are thoughtful, as if David James sees himself as a vessel (I mean, the dude?s name is David James) and his voice is not some crooner?s silky timbre, but rather a gutty imperfection, untampered with in a world of perfect thin-voiced love singers. But like I said, sincerity always wins. Always. And if Ndelible continues to be sincere, then indelible they will be, indeed.”

You can pick up the digital album here. Physical CD’s are yonder.

In other news…

To all you MJ fans out there, DJ Jazzy Jeff just released a nice Michael Jackson compilation (He’s the King, I’m the DJ)…I’ve had it on rotation for a minute now. It’s available for free here.

Another great record from a local cat by the name of Zo just came out. He (along with members of the Foreign Exchange) have made a pretty cool album that remakes some classic tunes (in the Stevie Wonder, Isley Brothers vein). It’s also available for free here.

Lastly, just saw an interesting profile of Common. Gotta love positivity in rap. Sometimes it’s harder to find than Bin Laden

To **download or not to **download?

06 Jul

**Illegally.

Lately I’ve been pondering the topic of illegal downloading…I gotta admit, it’s a tricky subject. As a musician I feel like its imperative that I denounce the process, as I rely on CD income for…well, income. If everybody were to illegally download my work, I’d be broke. Also, there’s a certain pride that comes with recording something…a pride in compositions that are to be enjoyed (by consumers), but also compensated. Personally, this feeling makes me buy my music from amazonmp3, where they sell albums for about 8.99 and have deals of the day that are normally 2 bucks for an album, which really isn’t too much to ask.

On the other hand, some say that illegal downloads should be allowed because artists can thrive solely off of touring income. I feel like that suggestion sort of misses the point. It’s like me asking you to not get paid for the work you do on Mondays and Fridays b/c you get paid on other days.

I’m not writing this to pass judgment. I used to download music like crazy as well…Kazaa and I were good friends, but about three years ago I realized I couldn’t do it anymore w/o a tremendous sense of guilt. I was, after all, stealing…but that’s just me. I understand the impetus behind doing it. And honestly, as a struggling college student who loves music, I can understand why other people would do whatever necessary to have it in their possession.

Pause for one of the coolest photos I’ve ever seen…Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder in the studio together.

While we’re on the subject of Michael Jackson, this dude is dominating the charts while in the grave. That’s crazy to me

Free Show in Bmore this Thursday!!

29 Jun

Greetings All,

As I’m sure everybody’s aware, MJ’s gone. Just want to say RIP to one of the greatest singers ever. Did a short write up on it here.

Next on the agenda: I’m playing with Ndelible in Bmore next Thursday for a Free Show with legends Fertile Ground. It’s a part of the Jazzy Summer Nights series and is at Hopkins Plaza in the city. The show goes from 6pm-10pm. I think Spur of the Moment is gonna be there next month. There’s a story on last year’s series here.

Lastly, you may have noticed some changes to the website (je-music.com). I’ve completely redesigned the site and would love to get your feedback on it. I have new pics, a blog up, and a paypal link. The paypal link allows you to buy CD’s directly from the site without going to amazon/itunes/etc.

I actually prefer if people buy the CD straight from the website as I don’t have to pay an exorbitant rate to places like amazon or iTunes. Also, this way I get to offer the CD for a cheaper price than other places and with discounts on multiple orders. Check the new store here.

Oh, and there’s a few pics from the Ndelible/Fertile Ground show last Thursday on the website here. Once again, I’m greatly appreciative of the continued support. I hope everybody’s doing well…

Sincerely,

Joe Edwards
